CHAPTER PROJECTS

Unique Members-only Benefits ~~  North Florida Poetry Hub offers many opportunities to it's members to publish their words and get them in public places. These are just a few of our engaging projects designed to promote and get our poets published, and their words noticed.

POETRY WALK

Public Display of North Florida Poetry Hub Member's Poetry ~ Poetry Walk & more...

Hope At Hand hosts JAX Poetry Fest each year in Jacksonville. This consists of all kinds of cool poetry events ranging from workshops, live poetry performances and in April of 2021 and 2022, a Poetry Walk. North Florida Poetry Hub members wrote special poems for the occasion and Hope At Hand had sandwich boards created which were displayed at various venues on the sidewalks and parks in downtown Jacksonville. Awesome!

These sandwich board signs will also be used at future events by Hope At Hand and North Florida Poetry Hub. Haiku poems written by NFPH members were also included on the Haiku Wall downtown. Another awesome benefit of being a member of the North Florida Poetry Hub!

THE POET'S PEN PROJECT

THE-POETS-PEN-THREE.jpg

Our Members learn the in's and out's of Desktop Publishing and produce their own limited edition poetry book in a mentorship program with experienced desktop publishers.

Our Poet’s Pen Project was created to assist poets who have never self-published a book before being guided through the steps of how to self-publish a small chapbook or Zine. Each member collaborates with an experienced desktop publisher and guide on the ins and outs of taking a collection of poems or writings and turn it into a small run, numbered, limited-edition chapbook or Zine. Through this process they gain the knowledge of how to go about to create and self-publish books in the future. Experienced published writers use the program to create meaningful unique limited-edition books or Zines as a unique and enjoyable publishing experience. All our members enjoy the experience of participating in the North Florida Poetry Hub members only “Poet’s Pen” project.

POETRY CHARITY PROJECTS

Nursing Home Poetry Holiday Cards & Poetry Scrolls

Each year since 2020, our Chapter members have collaborated with Hope-At-Hand for our Holiday Card Project. Through this collaborative effort, 600 originally designed poetry cards have been donated to local nursing homes in the Jacksonville area to cheer elderly residents with uplifting and cheerful poetry. The cards included poetry written by Chapter members and Hope-At-Hand poetry therapy students. The project is funded through the generosity of Hope-At-Hand.
Poetry Scrolls:  Each year in April we create poetry scrolls that include poetry written by our members and donate over 600 scrolls to four area nursing homes and hand them out to the public in honor of National Poetry Month.
These projects have become annual events, being repeated and expanded to reach more residents of our local community each year.

This was an event held to showcase our members who had written and published their own "The Poet's Pen" limited edition volume.  A Gathering of Poets and Women Writing For (a) Change joined in on our celebration of poetry and the “First Coast Poetry Showcase” was created!
A Gathering of Poets organized the “Young Voices” High School Poetry Contest, which promotes and celebrates young poets within the student population of Duval and St Johns Counties. Congratulations to the Winners.
