NORTH FLORIDA POETRY HUB
~ 100,000 Poets For Change Our Month-Long Celebration Was Phenomenal ~
"Call For Peace, Justice, And Positive Change"
Staying one-step ahead of the times, we didn’t want to miss opportunities to bring the beauty and share our love of poetry to our community. This year, with the Delta Variant Covid challenge, we had to adjust our plans of meeting in person in front of children, so we came up with this idea of taping the readings and making them available on our YouTube channel.
North Florida Poetry Hub Poets taped poetry readings for children, which are now completed and up on the North Florida Poetry Hub YouTube channel, the link is being distributed to teachers, librarians and other interested groups for children’s viewing during September as part of the 100 Thousand Poets 4 Change Read-A-Poem-To-A-Child initiative.
We want to thank the poets who participated in this program: Shutta Crum, Chris Kastle (for her amazing sing-along song), Sally Constain, Mehmet Gunes and Sharon Scholl. The video was wrapped up with a quick “write your own poem” lesson by Ruth Van Alstine. Thank you for making all this possible!

"CALL FOR PEACE, JUSTICE, AND POSITIVE CHANGE"
September 25, 2021
Open Mic & Call to Poets/Artists/Musicians Event/Project Hosted By North Florida Poetry Hub
For the entire month of September 2021 North Florida Poetry Hub in Jacksonville, Florida joined with other communities around the world and participated in the 100 Thousand Poets For Change movement to bring attention to subjects that are of concern in order to effect positive change. There is political/social change in the world. Wars, violation of human rights, ecocide, racism, genocide, gender inequality, homelessness, lack of affordable medical care, police brutality, religious persecution, poverty, censorship, animal cruelty, the global pandemic of COVID-19 and so much more than can be mentioned here.
To that end, North Florida Poetry Hub hosted an Open Mic for the second year as a platform for poets, writers, musicians, artists, and activists to get their message out, using the virtual platform to reach out to a global audience, to publicly use words to convey the message of their cause, be it about peace, the environment, civil liberties, social injustice, war, or any concern they are passionate about in order to effect positive change, which was shared with the world through 100 Thousand Poets for Change and has been posted on our North Florida Poetry Hub Chapter YouTube channel.
This recording has been archived with 100 Thousand Poets For Change and on their website, as well as with Stanford and Florida State Universities who have deemed the cause of 100 Thousand Poets For Change a historical event worthy of preservation and will be saved in their archives.
North Florida Poetry Hub is a chapter of the Florida State Poets Association and was created by the local nonprofit Hope at Hand, Inc. to support and help the arts flourish for poets, writers and lovers of all things poetic and artistic in the North Florida region.
